Some days

I miss you so much it hurts.

Your memory

becomes so strong

I wonder if you're thinking of me too.

But deep down,

I know you aren't.

I know you're happy

in your new life

far away

from the place you used to call home.

I know I'll never again

hear your voice,

watch you play the guitar,

smile up at you,

kiss the rough stubble along your jaw,

get excited

because you texted me,

or called me love

or hun

or beautiful.

Never again

will I

fiddle with the Thor hammer hanging from your neck

or ride shotgun in your jeep

or stretch out naked

on your bed.

I know you're happy

with her

and her children.

But sometimes,

even though I want you to be happy,

I still cry

and wish you were happy with me.

Well expressed....sadly we all have been through similiar, it is a sad part of life to realize that someone we esteem highly, doesn't esteem us quite as much in return....The void they leave behind takes time to drain...the hurt doesn't evaporate very quickly.

Shannon,
Since you just fanned me, I've been meaning to read some of your material, and haven't had the chance. I found "Your Memory" to be incredibly moving and poignant. And I've read it 4 or 5 times since: the words fell just right, so beautiful and sweet, yet heartbreaking at the same time. But when a heart breaks, you never find all the pieces; it's never whole again,---and neither are you.
And there's a reason his memory is so strong, Shannon, I believe he IS thinking of you, at those very times he seems right in the same room with you. Perhaps he's never let go of you in the way you think he has.
Very, very moving. I've lived this myself, so thank you so much.

Powerful plain language poem describing deep, heart-wrenching feelings that for most are indescribable with any words. You have achieved the simplest description, a broken heart, that reads as a universal heartbreaking axiom. ed...

Hearts exposed are hearts at risk, yet it truly is better to have loved & lost than never to have loved at all! Keeping beloved memories is what the safebox of our minds is best fitted for, so never give up on that!
