Gesma, a spider with an ancient history, comes out from under the microwave and merges into the body of fifteen year old Allison, awakening new desires and a need for wild adventure. The trouble they find gets her sent to Holshue House, a reform institution for teenage girls and young women, where she finds a significant person, as well as discovering the dark side of the converted antebellum mansion. Slavery has not been forgotten - its ghosts live on at Holshue House.
