He didn't want to cause a scene, though he supposed that was inevitable after a certain point. He dragged his empty suitcase over to a metal box that claimed to shelter an emergency phone and placed his wallet right on top, as if it had been tremendously heavy and he just needed a quick break. After convincing himself no one was watching, he continued on to the part of the platform covered in yellow paint and raised bumps, deliriously close to the edge.
One last look around the station. No one stood close enough to interfere. He could already hear the train in the tunnel, and his heart hammered in his chest as he tried to ignore the reality of what he was about to do.
A note, he realized, as the train rushed by in front of him, screeching as it slowed. He'd forgotten to leave a note. If there was no note, they'd wonder forever; was it an accident or was it on purpose?
The train doors slid open and he stepped in on numb instinct, doors sliding shut behind him. He turned, just in time to watch his wallet through the window as the train rattled forward.
