Having trouble with formatting?

Below is information and guidance on some formatting problems that users occasionally experience on the site.

Please note: When transferring writing from Word or another word processor, it is almost impossible to maintain all of the formatting of the original document. Booksie attempts to convert the text into a format that can be easily read across all devices - computer, phone, tablet, etc.

Paragraph breaks not working?

This is the most common problem users experience on the site.

There are several reasons that paragraph breaks might not work.

Javascript not working. In some browsers, javascript may be turned off, which could impact the text editor. To resolve this problem, search on the Internet for how to check javascript for your browser type. If it is turned off, turn it on and see if that resolves the problem.

Your initial document is not in a format that can be loaded onto the site. PDFs, some types of less common word processors, and less common browsers can sometimes cause paragraph problems. Try savings your document as an .html file and then copying and pasting it onto the site. That may resolve the problem.

Incompatible browser. Sometimes, the browser you are using or the settings on your computer just do not want to play nice with the conversion process. If this is the case, we recommend installing the latest version of Firefox. In general, Firefox provides the best conversion results, and it is free to use.

Can't single space the lines of your poetry?

The text editor will automatically double space line breaks. To single space line breaks instead of pressing enter to create a new line, simultaneously press SHIFT + ENTER to create a new line. This will create a single spaced line break.

Can't see the editor window to add or paste content?

Occasionally, you might stop seeing the editor when you are posting content to the site. If this happens, first try clearing your browser cache. To learn how to do this, Google "clear browser cache" and look for the type of browser you are using. You will find instructions for doing so.

If you are using a phone or tablet to post, then please let us know you are having problems. We are aware of several conflicts with Anrdoid phones and tablets that we are in the process of resolving.
