Unmapped is a lyrical journey of discovery and intimacy, where a road trip becomes a metaphor for exploring the contours of a lover’s body. Through vivid imagery and sensory detail, the speaker traces the landscape of their partner’s form, each valley and ridge representing a new discovery. As the journey unfolds, the poem captures both the awe of exploration and the intimate return to where it all began—gazing at the “immaculate view” of the one they love.

Unmapped

I like taking road trips.
Your mountain ranges call to me—
peaks rise and fall with your energy.
I trace the map lines with my eyes,
blue as spring waters.

I follow them with my finger,
in and out of the valleys
of your shoulders.
My breath escapes me!

I trek through every contour—
wandering the ridges:
collarbones, cheeks, chest—
until I arrive where I began:
gazing at the immaculate view of you.
