The Deeper the Goal-the Further the Goal

Life, it’s a difficult thing. It’s also all we as humans know, besides death. To succeed in life, it’s commonly agreed upon that you need good grades and a college degree to make money and have a semi successful life. This however, is simply not true, it is only as true as we make it. We as people have created a system where your ability to focus and remember information and a letter grade determines your life. Students who have terrible grades and often seen scoring above average on state tests, this is my experience throughout my ongoing journey of school. It never had to be this way, but it is most likely too late to change it. 

If you struggle with school, don’t give up on your life. Keep trying in school because most of it is very important, ask for help and don’t dig yourself a hole. I many times would not turn in work to the point where I was 20 or even 30 assignments behind the rest of my classes. I am currently working my way out of this hole and slowly realizing this would have been much easier if I had done the work in the first place. I believe my biggest problem, aside from lack of work ethic and my laziness, was not asking for help. When I was stuck on an assignment, instead of asking for help, I would give up because I feared what people would think of me. I thought that maybe they would think I was stupid or something silly like that. I am going to therapy to help with this and it has helped a lot with my anxiousness. 

If you find yourself digging an academic hole, ask for help, whether you think people will judge you for that. If you are showing signs of social anxiety like myself, get help. Yes, one may argue that the school system is flawed, I do not disagree, but it’s something that this cruel world doesn’t care about. It doesn’t care if one person is falling behind, it will leave you. You must persevere through the hardships and remember, it’s ok to need help. Never forget how much help really matters, that’s what a lot of people are here for.
