ECHOES OF THE NIGHT
Chapter 1: Whispers in the Dark
The small town of Lorian had always been eerily quiet after sunset. The locals knew better than to wander the streets at night, for strange whispers carried through the wind, and those who listened too closely never woke up the same.
Mara, a journalist from the city, arrived in Lorian determined to uncover the truth. She had heard the stories—people disappearing, returning with vacant eyes and hushed voices, or never coming back at all. That night, she checked into a rundown motel on the edge of town, her tape recorder ready.
At exactly midnight, the whispers began. They slithered through the air, pressing against the thin walls of her room. The words were unintelligible, but the fear they carried was unmistakable. She pressed record, heart pounding.
Then, a voice—clear, desperate—rose above the rest.
“Help me… before they take me too.”
Mara bolted upright. The voice was right outside her window.
