It  happened as the school classroom bell rang, finally signaling that we could leave, but, as we got up to our feet another message played over the speaker system... “students, please remain in your classrooms as we are now in lockdown, no one is allowed to leave under any circumstances” we all groaned, hardly a soul taking it seriously, whatever drill we assumed the school was putting us through, none of us were happy about it. Only then, I glanced outside to see three military vehicles approaching the school, within a minute, dozens of soldiers poured out with equipment, and wooden boards, running towards our windows. One by one they started boarding them up, making any form of escape impossible. “what's happening?” Leo asked from the back of the class, Mr. Morgan didn't answer, he looked just as confus the rest of us were. He opened his phone and started ringing the principle. He didn’t answer. “we're just going to have to stay here” said Mr. Morgan, “let them deal with it” I dug my phone from my bag, just to find it didn’t have any signal. The school always had crappy service; however, it had never been this bad. Whatever the soldiers had done it had blocked our only need for contact in the outside world. “I can’t call anyone” I said holding up my mobile phone. The same happened with the other students, and even with Mr. Morgan. Each of them with the same result. “Everybody keep calm, it will be all right” Mr. Morgan said unconvincedly, “we just need to wait here for them to help” his words were interrupted by frantic screaming coming from the hallway! And heavy footsteps running just outside the door, we all sat in silence, listening in fear to the commotion going on outside, then one by one the screams were silenced, replaced by distant gurgles. It was then some of my classmates started crying, and others sat in fear, “screw this, I'm leaving” one of the students said, it was jack, the class clown he was a dare devil, he claims nothing can scare him, but even for him this was ridiculous. He ran to the door, forced it open, and ran into the hallway before Mr. Morgan could stop him. He just rushed over and shut the door again. We all sat back ready for his screams, but they never came it seemed like jack had made it to safety, whether he escaped the school or not no one knew. “He made it?” Leo called from the back, “I don’t know, it sounds like he’s fine” another one chimed in. As the news of his escape hit us, more of the students felt confident that it was safe to leave. While Mr. Morgan demanded we stay, he couldn’t fight us all. A group of four students (including myself) decided to leave. Leo took the lead, sticking his head outside the door signaling that it was all clear, we crept into the hallway in silence. The place was eerily quiet, we decided to head in the direction that we thought was the safest. While we all figured the main entrance was locked, we checked for a ventilation system that might not have been sealed. The only one we all knew about was situated by the main door. If jack had made it outside that would be the only way, as we walked down the hall, the lights suddenly went out, it appeared the electricity had been cut. Because even the ventilation system fell silent, the whole school's power had been cut off, meaning the only source of light we had was from our mobile phones. However, it hardly provided any comfort. Suddenly I slipped and hit my head on the ground, it hurt and as I went to rub the back of my head it felt wet, at first, I was worried that I might have cracked my head open, but then I realized my entire back was wet. Leo shined his flashlight at my back he immediately gasped when he realized that I was covered in blood. The only issue was it didn’t belong to me. The entire hallway was covered in blood. The floor, the walls and the ceiling. “Maybe we should turn back?” Lee said, “no, we need to get out!” Tyler argued back. We kept going, slowly moving forward in silence, as we finally saw the entrance, and as suspected the doors were sealed shut with metal plates. On the other side of the wall was a ladder leading up to the vent (probably the one Jack had used to escape. Tyler rushed to the front and started working his way up. As he got to the top (where the vent was situated) he stood frozen in place, “jack” he said quietly, “is he in there” I said “yeah, but he’s not moving” then Tyler started tugging on Jacks legs and tumbled back as he pulled half of Jacks body out of the vent. Falling to the ground. He had knocked himself out for a second. Jack was dead, which meant the monster had either climbed into the vent, or there were several of them. “Wait, we should go back to the classroom and wait for help” Lee suggested as she stared at what was left of Jack. None of us could disagree, so we got Tyler back on his feet, and began quietly walking back praying that we didn't catch the attention of whatever monstrosity had been unleashed within our school. When we finally got back, we found the door to our classroom broken and smashed into pieces, we stood frozen outside, until I finally got the guts to check inside. The entire room was covered in blood, with chunks of flesh on the floor, every single person in the classroom had been killed, torn to shreds by an unknown entity. And if we hadn’t gone to look for a way out, we would all be dead too. “What, what are we going to do” Lee asked in fear as she stood they’re, shaking uncontrollably “I don’t know, we just have to keep looking for a way out, we can’t stay here” I said. We turned to walk in the opposite direction, hoping to find shelter or maybe even an escape through the basement. But as we turned to walk, we heard a bizarre sound shattering the silence around us. “What was that” Tyler asked with a shaky voice. It was the thing; it had to be! Darkness felt more overwhelming than ever, we had to keep going! We ran through the halls, occasionally coming across streams of blood, as we turned the corner, we heard Lee scream for his life. “NO HELP ME!” he had been snatched by a long black snake of some sort, The black arm slithered backwards into the darkness, and Lee’s screams slowly faded away, we tried to grab onto him , but he was getting dragged back to quickly. We heard her getting crushed and not long after the thing also tore Tyler to bits! It looked like a mix of a snake, shadow and a Bear, although it was 10x bigger! The only two people left was me and Leo, and we kept running in an aimless attempt to escape, we had gotten lost in the vast hallways of the school, finally we met another boarded-up set of doors leading to freedom, but they were locked, defeated I just collapsed onto the ground but Leo wasn’t ready to give up, he kept hammering on the boarded up doors, and in the distance we could hear the monster come closer, and within minutes we would be dead. However, Leo smashed against the doors one last time, and it worked! Stood outside were a full team of swat officers all carrying riot shields and a weapon. A group of soldiers rushed into the building, and threw something I could only describe as a military grenade flashbang. One of them turned to us. “Is there anyone else left,” said the officer. “No, there all dead” said Leo in a shaky voice, barely managing to get his words out. They then drove us to a hospital, and we were both grateful to be alive. But who knows that creature could still be out there. On the news that night they said that it was an animal who escaped from the zoo, but I know what I saw, and it was not from the zoo, and since there's an army research center not far from the school, something just doesn’t add up. The end. Or is it?
