Short Story

Is The Easter Bunny Real?
by Mr. Rabbit
In the quaint town of Taveville, nestled amidst rolling hills and whispering forests, lived a young girl named Autumn.  She possessed an unwavering belief in faith and goodness, even when her classmates dismissed it as mere fairy tales.
One sunny morning, Ms. Quinette Laubacker, Autumn’s fifth-grade teacher, posed a challenge to her students: “Write a story about the Easter Bunny.” The classroom buzzed with excitement, but most kids rolled their eyes.  After all, they were too old for such fanciful tales or so they thought.
However Autumn sat up straight, her eyes sparkled.  She knew something the others didn’t—a secret whispered by the wind and carried by the rustling leaves.  She raised her hand and Ms. Laubacker called on her.
“Autumn,” the teacher said, “tell us about the Easter Bunny.”
Autumn stood her heart pounding, “The Easter Bunny is real,” she declared.  “His name is Noam, and he doesn’t just hide eggs.  He lives in a miraculous place called Moriah Hallow where the veil between our world and the mystical realm is thin.”
With loud laughter, the class exchanged skeptical glances, but Autumn continued, her voice unwavering: “One misty morning I stumbled upon Moriah Hallow.  I was following a trail of dandelion fluff and suddenly the world shifted.  Trees grew taller and the air hummed with secrets. There stood Noam, his eyes kind and ancient.”
“Autumn,” he said, “You believe, don’t you?”
She nodded; her eyes teared, “I do.”
She continued and now I shall tell you a miraculous tale about Moriah Hallow.  I will tell you what was told to me.
In the heart of the Moriah Hallow, a bunny called Noam lived.  Unlike other bunnies, Noam had many secrets. First, he is the Easter Bunny and then he could talk to the stars.  Every night when the moon hung low and the world slept, Noam would hop to the top of a grassy hill, his fluffy ears perked up toward the sky.
“Good evening, Vega,” Noam would say, addressing the brightest star. “What news from the cosmic realms?”
Vega sparkling with a blue-white light would twinkle in response. “Noam, my friend, the stars have whispered secrets to me. They say that Earth is a precious gem, spinning gracefully in the vastness of space.”
Noam’s whiskers twitched with curiosity, “And what do they say about us, the creatures of Earth?”
“Ah,” Vega replied, “they call you the ‘most chosen of God's universe. You walk the land, face challenges, and create beauty through love and kindness. You are the heartbeat of existence.”
Noam’s bunny heart swelled. “Most Chosen” he repeated, savoring the words, “I like that.”
But Noam wasn’t content merely being most chosen. He wanted to do more—to spread joy just like the stars do.  So he hatched a plan. On the eve of the Spring Equinox when faith hung thick in the air, Noam set off on a starlit quest.
His first stop was the ancient Oak of Whispers.  Its gnarled branches reach for the sky and its leaves breathe secrets.  Noam leaned close, “Dear Oak,” he said, “what wisdom can you share?”
The Oak’s voice was a gentle breeze as it spoke, “Noam, kindness is like sunlight filtering through leaves.  It warms hearts and nourishes souls.  Be kind, little bunny.”
Noam nodded.  Armed with the Oak’s wisdom, he hopped to the riverbank.  There the shimmering water spoke to him, “Noam,” it murmured, “listen to the stories carried by the currents. They tell of resilience and hope.”
Noam dipped his paw in the water. “I’ll be resilient,” he vowed, “and carry hope wherever I go.”
Next his journey took him to the meadow where fireflies danced. “Noam,” they twinkled, “Your light matters. You must illuminate the darkness.”
Noam’s fluffy tail flickered with newfound purpose. “I’ll be a beacon,” he promised, “A firefly of goodwill.”
Finally on top of the grassy hill Noam looked up at the stars. “Thank you,” he whispered, “For your wisdom, your light, and as a title of an ‘apostle.’  I will make you proud.”
And so Noam began the Moriah Hallow School for Easter bunny. A place where Easter bunnies and their forest friends gathered to learn, play, and prepare for the most important day of the year—the joyous celebration of Easter.
Noam taught the bunnies about kindness, compassion, and the importance of sharing God’s love.  Each lucky rabbit’s foot will bear the symbol of Noam—a reminder that they were part of something greater, a connection to the very heart of Easter.
Bunnies and forest friends practiced their egg-painting techniques, their little paws dipping into vibrant dyes. They sang songs about rebirth and renewal, their voices echoing through the forest.  And Noam with his warm smile reminded them that Easter was not just about eggs and sweets—it was a celebration of faith, hope, love, and the promise of new beginnings.
Noam whispered a silent prayer. His red feet glowed brighter than ever as a beacon of love and goodwill.  For in that sacred moment, he knew that the spirit of Easter had touched every heart, filling it with warmth and wonder.
The stars watched their celestial hearts aglow.
That night, Vega spoke again. “Noam,” it said, “you’ve become a legend among us.  Your kindness and faith echoes across the cosmos.”
Noam again blushed stating “I’m just a bunny.”
“No,” Vega insisted, “You’re a star in your own right.”
Autumn continued.
But Noam’s true purpose went beyond pastel eggs. He was a guardian of faith and love, a keeper of kindness.  When children felt lonely, he left them little notes under their pillows, urging them to be brave and compassionate.  When flowers wilted, he whispered encouragement to the petals, coaxing them back to life.
And every year, on Easter morning, Noam stood atop a hill in Moriah Hallow.  His fluffy tail twitched, and he gazed at the sunrise; its colors blending like an artist’s palette.  As the first rays touched the land, Noam’s faith surged.  He scattered eggs across the world sharing God's love and leaving trails of joy in his wake.
The classmate's eyes widened with wonder and their imaginations took flight.  Skepticism was replaced by awe.
Liam: “Whoa, that’s so cool!  An Easter Bunny who was there during Jesus’ time?  I want to believe it!”
Olivia: “Autumn, you always find the best stories. Can we write it together?”
Sophie: “Wait, so Noam helped Jesus?  That’s like a superhero bunny!”
Lurie: ''So, Noam colors eggs and change food to sweets with a touch of his blessed feet, WOW''.
Then Ms. Laubacker stated, ''Autumn, you’re our official storyteller now.  Keep 'em coming!”
From that day on, Autumn visited Moriah Hallow whenever her heart felt heavy.  She danced with fireflies, listened to the wind’s lullabies, and learned the language of forgotten things.  And Noam?  He became her friend, her confidant—the keeper of her dreams.
So, dear reader, the next time you see a pastel egg hidden in the grass, remember Noam. He’s more than a bunny; he’s a bridge between worlds; a symbol of faith, resilience, and a reminder that love exists for those who believe.
And as for Autumn?  Well, she grew up and became a teacher but her heart remained forever young.  She still visits Moriah Hallow where Noam waits, ready to share God’s love with all creatures—both big and small.
And that, my friends, is the tale of Noam the Easter Bunny—a legend whispered by the wind, carried by believers, and etched into the fabric of wonder.

Author’s Note: The legend of Noam and Moriah Hallow was penned by the mysterious Emile B. LaCerte Jr., whose ink flows with stardust and moonbeams.  Seek out his books if you dare to believe.
