The foul demon must not escape! This singular thought pulsed in my veins as my feet pounded the lush grass flat beneath them. My heart hammered in my chest, but I did not stop. I could not stop. If this demon escaped my clutches here, the world would plummet into despair and crumble to ash. Such was my destiny– foretold by the Prophet of the Grand Cathedral.
The demon dashed past a pair of innocent bystanders. However, they are unable to see the terrible beast. A blessing for them. They continued singing along to the song drifting from the speaker as if this battle of mine was not even happening.
The demon paused and turned to glare at me, its enemy. It knew I was destined to cleanse its evil soul in the Holy Waters of the Cathedral. Its cold, dark eyes pierced my soul and nearly froze the blood in my veins. I clutched the chains I was given to bind it and took a breath. Hoping to catch it off-guard, I sprinted toward the beast. It reacted and dodged at the last second, taking off at a sprint of its own. I reached deep inside for the energy granted by the elixir the Prophet had provided me before the battle.
The elixir, imbued with the power of the Sun’s light, granted me the speed I needed. I was right on the demon’s heels. With a final lunge, I wrapped my arms around its neck and bound it in the chains. It tried to fight, but it dare not bite, for my blood would be like poison for their kind.
I stood, triumphant, as the Prophet appeared in the door of the Cathedral. “Oh good, Timmy got the leash on.” She called out to me. “Bring Lacy in now. Your father will help get her in the bath. Here’s another Capri Sun. You must be tired chasing her all around the backyard like that.”
