We Have Failed
What kind of world are we living in
when people are dying to no avail?
When man’s moral compass is gone.
Mothers cry over their young and wail.
Where sympathy is a word to be told.
Humanity has crumbled and failed,
to behold it’s most sacred goals.
“Love” and “Peace” were its most holy grails.
What happened to “Turn the other cheek?”
“Do unto others” has now prevailed.
“Love thy neighbor” is no more.
The number of dead is off the scale.
What am I going to tell my young,
that the time of peace has already sailed?
That love is no longer to be sung.
It is just in movies and fairytales.
I don’t want to live in a world
where lives are commodities for sale.
We can not keep pointing the blame
at one another for our truths to prevail.
There must come a time and a place
when we wake up and remove the veil,
of distrust and start all over again.
If we don’t, then we would all have failed.

This is so true...
What have we done to each other? Everyone is so sensitive and hostile. We rant and rave to those who have different opinions, and I don't just mean the Woke. Everyone is doing it these days. We need to love each other again. We need to do what God has told us to do.
You know, without God and His Word, we'd all be living in even more chaos than we are now. So, we should start listening to Him and respecting each other again.
Thank you, Sam, for writing this amazing piece of art. It made me think about the way I'm acting with others and how I can improve it :3
Powerful and sensitive.

Thu, February 22nd, 2024 6:22amYour poem touched my heart, Sam. Humanity has indeed lost so many, if not too many, of its values. But your words are proof that there are still people with wonderful hearts and that counts for something, doesn't it?
Mon, March 18th, 2024 8:10amA very good poem indeed!
Fri, May 3rd, 2024 6:32pmSam, this is so well written and peace is something of a long forgotten time, with people chosing sides in the wars and somehow think that praying for peace while picking sides is a good thing. Maybe we should abstain from picking sides and pray for peace for all human beings.

Thu, September 12th, 2024 10:17pmThis poem was very well written, but I have to disagree with its content. There are hundreds of old examples of people "dying to no avail" and of people that decide not to "turn the other cheek": People went to wars; people used to burn women that knew technical skills; people were more racist than we are nowadays (often for religious reasons, even though many religions like Christianity tell people to love each other); the Law of Talion was written almost 4000 years ago, and it specifically says to you to not turn the other cheek.
As I see it, we tend to overlook minor (or even major) hypocrisies, vengefulness, and cruelty, even by people that were supposedly morally sound (Church did some horrible things and killed tens of millions of people throughout history). Humanity is no good, but to say we aren't progressing as a good place to live is to ignore that just a few centuries ago, in the Industrial Revolution, people had to work 13-16 hours a day, with no weekends, just to earn a living (not to mention that, before that, slavery was incredibly popular). Maybe with recent conflicts we are facing some setbacks, but in the grand scheme of things we are going somewhere. I don't think "love is no longer to be sung.", I actually think we are just starting to pick up its rhythm.
