Following her car accident and the death of her mother fourteen year old Charlie becomes isolated within the walls of ancient Twizel Manor. She finds solace in watching the red squirrels at play in the woods until the quiet refuge of Twizel is threatened and both Charlie and the Squirrels are driven from their home.
